This bracelet is Jomaz brand, a jewelry company that got its start in 1927 in New York City. This company earned its name by making beautiful alternatives to expensive jewelry and made the world of beautiful jewelry more accessible to the average person. This articulated tennis bracelet is made up of twelve hinged parts. Each part is adorned with lapis lazuli, faux Persian turquoise, and a cut paste stone. On each segment, there is one lapis lazuli, two faux turquoise, and around sixteen cut paste stones. The lapis lazuli is a deep blue hue with lighter blue striations and measures 6 mm in diameter. The faux Persian turquoise is a light turquoise blue and measures 3 mm in diameter. This glamorous bracelet would have been perfect on the arm of a socialite on the red carpet or cocktail party. Don’t miss your chance to own this piece of history. Damage: Age appropriate wear. The gold wash is wearing in some places. The price of this piece has been reduced to reflect this. This listing is for the item only. The Art Deco era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. The Mid-Century era, 1935 to 1965, encompassed many new styles of art and architecture and this carried over to jewelry making. This exciting time for jewelry saw movements such as Hollywood Regency, Modernism, Brutalism, and the Atomic Age. Native American artisans were also making their mark in the jewelry industry. Artisans used many kinds of metals, gemstones, glass, and experimented with ceramic and wood as well. This era was filled with new and innovative designs, while also rejuvenating and reinventing older styles. The unique jewelry which emerged from this era is still very popular today. Articulated pieces of jewelry are usually composed of two or more pieces connected by a flexible joint, hinge, or pivot to allow for realistic movement. This technique is used to lend a lifelike quality to animal figures, or to allow jewelry to drape elegantly, like a snake chain. Historians believe the link between humans and lapis lazuli stretches back more than 6,500 years. The gem was treasured by the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome. They valued it for its vivid, exquisite color, and prized it as much as they prized other blue gems like sapphire and turquoise. At the end of the middle ages, lapis was ground up and used as the ultramarine pigment found in painting. Malachite is a popular stone which has light and dark green opaque banded areas. Malachite is a result of weathering copper ores. Many beautiful specimens of malachite contain special combinations with other minerals, such as azurite, cuprite, or chrysocolla. Turquoise is found all over the world and has been a popular semi-precious stone used in jewelry and art for thousands of years by many different cultures; from prehistoric times to the present. Turquoise comes in many beautiful color variations; from the popular bright solid sky-blue hues to dark blue hues with dark spiderwebbing throughout, as well as aqua, teal, and many green varieties, and even some rare white with dark spiderwebbing. Persian turquoise is a highly coveted stone that has been mined for thousands of years in what is now modern-day Iran; even as early as 2100 BC. The most coveted type of Persian Turquoise is a solid bright sky-blue hue that has no shades of green, spots, or veining of any kind. Today, Persian turquoise is found in a variety of light to medium blue and aqua blue hues with brown to black matrix. French jeweler Georges Frédéric Strass created paste as an alternative to diamonds during the Georgian era. Leaded glass was cut and polished with a metallic powder until it shimmered brightly like a diamond in the light. These white diamante or strass stones were wildly popular with the glamorous Parisians, and eventually paste stones were colored to mimic other precious gemstones.
