Vtg 1930s Art Deco Peking Sugarloaf Onyx Glass Geometric Link Bracelet
Contrasting in color and shape, this bold Art Deco bracelet has geometric glass links made to simulate jade and onyx. The “peking” glass cabochons have a sugarloaf shape jutting outward from the wrist. Made during the 1930s, the inky black rectangular links are smooth with a cool and slinky feel as they pivot slightly, draping nicely when worn. This piece is fresh looking and was well taken care of, the minimal amounts of wear are noticeable only on close inspection. The brass setting has a bright patina without any darkening and a modest amount of surface wear. The glass has a smooth and gleaming surface without any chipping and a modest amount of scratching. The clasp and jump rings are replaced and not original, there are no other irregularities to the setting or signs of solder or repair and the piece has a firm shape. Width Just under 5/8. Secure, is not original. Period pieces refer to those pieces that feel quintessentially of a certain era or movement. These pieces include the typical design elements associated with that period for a classic look. Period pieces are emblematic of culture and trends at the time. Art Deco is one of the first truly international styles, that influenced the design of buildings, furniture, fashion and of course, jewelry. The movement was given a name from the international exposition of Arts De coratifs et Industriels Modernes, that was held in Paris in 1925 and largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Born out of ideas of modernism and the Industrial Age, this manifested into designs that used Cubism s bold abstraction and rectilinear shapes and combined them with intricate patterning, bold color and symmetry. High-end jewelry design houses like Cartier and Boucheron set the trends in gold and gemstones, which were then emulated by costume jewelry companies in glass or perhaps plastics, and brought to the masses. _gsrx_vers_837 GS 7.0.15 (837).
