Vtg Art Deco Machine Age Modernist Chrysoprase Glass Sterling Silver Bracelet
Sleek and streamlined, this Art Deco bracelet embodies the 1930’s modernist movement that was inspired by the Industrial Age. While this bracelet is well made and sturdy, the links are fairly thin giving it a slinky and light feel when worn. Bright green glass cabochons made to simulate chrysoprase have a smooth surface and high sheen yet thoughtful faceting along the beveled edge gives them a touch of sparkle. This piece is fresh looking and was well taken care of, the minimal amounts of wear are noticeable only on close inspection. The silver has a bright patina without any dents and a modest amount of surface wear. The glass has a smooth and gleaming surface without any chipping and a modest amount of scratching and the faceting along the edges is still crisp and refractive. There are no irregularities to the setting or signs of solder or repair and the piece has a firm shape. (if the piece is not marked it is tested for silver content). Art Deco is one of the first truly international styles, that influenced the design of buildings, furniture, fashion and of course, jewelry. The movement was given a name from the international exposition of Arts D. Coratifs et Industriels Modernes, that was held in Paris in 1925 and largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Born out of ideas of modernism and the Industrial Age, this manifested into designs that used Cubisms bold abstraction and rectilinear shapes and combined them with intricate patterning, bold color and symmetry. High-end jewelry design houses like Cartier and Boucheron set the trends in gold and gemstones, which were then emulated by costume jewelry companies in glass or perhaps plastics, and brought to the masses. _gsrx_vers_837 GS 7.0.15 (837).
