Platinum Diamonds & Pearls. ITEM: A very special and beautiful piece of estate jewelry; a gorgeous art deco platinum and diamond brooch converted to a bracelet with seven rows of pearls, platinum and diamond spacers, and sliding bar clasp. The set also includes a matching custom necklace extension so the piece can be worn as a choker. DETAILS: 1930s brooch centerpiece holds 125 diamonds, for a total of 4.92 carats. Total of six spacer bars/clasps hold an estimated 1.6 carats of diamonds. The centerpiece diamond is a marquise brilliant-cut of approximately 0.5 carat, SI/1 clarity, G-H color. Further diamond analysis can be seen in appraisal. Choker extension was made with exacting standards and is an excellent match to original bracelet construction, including clasps and spacer bars. AUTHENTICITY: Bracelet comes with a 1992 full appraisal. Choker extension was made later and is additional to the appraisal. Racelet was reduced 1/2 in length (pearls removed) from what is stated in appraisal. Copy of appraisal (personal info removed) included in the sale. PERIOD: 1930s brooch, 1970s-1990s conversion and custom extension. MATERIALS: Platinum, cultured pearls, diamonds. MARKS: Unmarked custom piece. Vtg 1930s Art Deco Dome Lapis Peking Glass Pearl Wide Bracelet

Fresh looking, soft wear is noticeable only on close inspection. Setting has a golden patina with minor surface wear, no darkening or discoloration. Glass has high sheen with no chips or surface wear. No pearls are missing and they all have fresh finish. Clasp is original and secure. Made by hand or in small groups of similar styles, vintage jewelry is individualistic with its own special story. Style of piece was popular during 1930s, however this particular one has distinguishing design features. Domed glass alternates in color with shades and patterning made to simulate Jade and Lapis. Tiny faux pearls dot corners of each link and hidden clasp. Excellent condition showcases design detail and quality of construction. Bold links drape across wrist with a substantial weight and quality feel when worn. On Glass Made to Simulate Gemstones. Glass has long been used by jewelers to simulate natural gemstones. For instance, during the Georgian era, black dot paste is a term that refers to a style of glass that was made to simulate the sparkle of natural diamonds. But in the 1940s, the use of glass to simulate gemstones ramped up more than ever before. World War II constrained both fine materials and pocketbooks, so more and more designers (including high-end designers) focused on glass to re-create the distinctive properties of different gems. High-end designers thus began making costume glass jewelry – but with the same attention to detail, high craftsmanship, and design skill that was applied to fine jewelry. Antique and vintage pieces have been passed through generations, so it’s not often you find a piece that has been maintained in its near-original condition. Such pieces are not only higher in value, but they are also more collectible, as they carry the history of past owners but do not show it.
