Vintage 1930’s Art Deco Sterling Silver Natural Amethyst Modernist Bracelet
Beautifully crafted, the designer of this Art Deco bracelet emphasized the play of light and shadow with sterling silver. The links have a complex and angular shape that is both domed and recessed. Each sculptural link is identical (and yet not quite as it was formed by hand) and accented with a domed and deep purple natural amethyst. While this piece is finely constructed, it is still delicate and fairly light in weight with an elegant and streamlined look on the wrist when worn. This piece is fresh looking and was well taken care of, the minimal amounts of wear are noticeable only on close inspection. The silver has a bright patina without any dents and a modest amount of surface wear. The amethyst has a smooth and gleaming surface without any chipping and a modest amount of scratching. There are no irregularities to the setting or signs of solder or repair and the piece has a firm shape. A spring ring as a clasp is original to this piece however the spring ring may have been replaced at some point. Secure, may or may not be original. (if the piece is not marked it is tested for silver content). Art Deco is one of the first truly international styles, that influenced the design of buildings, furniture, fashion and of course, jewelry. The movement was given a name from the international exposition of Arts De coratifs et Industriels Modernes, that was held in Paris in 1925 and largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Born out of ideas of modernism and the Industrial Age, this manifested into designs that used Cubism s bold abstraction and rectilinear shapes and combined them with intricate patterning, bold color and symmetry. High-end jewelry design houses like Cartier and Boucheron set the trends in gold and gemstones, which were then emulated by costume jewelry companies in glass or perhaps plastics, and brought to the masses. _gsrx_vers_837 GS 7.0.15 (837).
